YWCA VOCATIONAL TRAINING OPPORTUNITY CENTRE

The YWCA Vocational Training Opportunity Centre (YWCA VTOC) is a project of the YWCA Kuala Lumpur which has started since 1998. The centre has trained more than 1,500 young women from underprivileged backgrounds and empowered them not only with vocational skills but also awareness surrounding important issues affecting their lives. These young women come from all over Malaysia. Every year, more than 60% of the trainees who have completed their course have been employed.

YWCA VTOC offers courses in Commerce, Early Childhood Education, Sewing and Tailoring, Culinary and Bakery and Hairdressing and Beauty. Led by 15 staff, the centre enriched the lives of young women not just with income generating skills but also development opportunities and entrepreneurial knowledge. The trainees are given hostel accommodation, meals, uniforms and course materials.

In 2018, we sponsored five trainees from the Culinary and Bakery course. This one year course which has been offered since 2004 aims to give trainees a foundation for entry into the hospitality industry.
